ASSA Fix 160/2 left window brake with 252 mm brake chamber
ASSA Fix 160/2 is a window and door brake for windows, smaller window doors, balcony doors and patio doors. It is used together with a compatible ASSA lever that has a transfer for the window brake.
This product has a 252 mm long brake box, 20 mm wide rectangular profile, detachable frame bracket and left-hand operation.
Quick check before ordering
Choose this ASSA Fix 160/2 left when the following applies to your existing brake:
- The brake box is 252 mm long
- The profile is 20 mm wide and rectangular
- The armrest is adjustable
- The brake lever is on the left side
- The old brake lacks a child-protecting locking function
The length of the brake lever is not enough by itself to identify the correct product. Also check the profile, the bracket mount and the left hand grip.
1. Check the profile
The ASSA Fix 160 has a 20 mm wide rectangular brake caliper. Measure over the widest part of the profile.
If you have a 16 mm wide T-shaped profile or a 22 mm wide special profile, it is a different brake family.

2. Check the mounting bracket
ASSA Fix 160 is said to have a detachable frame bracket. This allows the brake arm to be disconnected when the door or window needs to be opened further.
- ASSA Fix 150: fixed frame attachment
- ASSA Fix 160: detachable frame bracket
The mounting bracket is purchased separately. The series normally uses the ASSA 5550T or ASSA 5580.
3. Measure the length of the brake drum
Measure the straight brake bracket from side to side. Do not count the lower bracket, the protruding pin or the arm.
This model should have a 252 mm long brake box.
The long locking sleeve is cut by the customer during assembly. When replacing, use the old locking sleeve as a reference.

4. Check the left execution
Hold the brake box with the opening facing upwards and the short side towards you. The long axle should point away from you.
- Left: the brake pin is located on the left side
- Right: the brake pin is located on the right side
On this product, the brake lever should be on the left side.
Left or right has nothing to do with which side the door hinge is attached to.

This is how ASSA Fix 160 works
The brake is operated using the shuttle’s usual handle. When the handle is in the closed position, the brake holds the door or window in place with friction in the selected ventilation mode.
When the handle is moved to the open position, the arch is allowed to move freely. The friction during opening increases as the opening angle becomes larger. In case of severe overload, the brake can slip to reduce the load on the arch and hinge.
The difference between the 252 and 257 mm brake chamber
A difference of five millimeters can mean that it is a completely different brake family.
- ASSA Fix 160/2: 252 mm brake caliper and 20 mm wide rectangular profile
- ASSA 750/2 or 760/2: 257 mm brake caliper and 16 mm wide T-shaped Euronot profile
Therefore, do not choose the model whose length is closest. Always check both the exact length of the brake caliper and the width and shape of the profile.
The difference between ASSA Fix 150, 160 and 160S
| Model | Profile | Frame attachment and functionality |
|---|---|---|
| ASSA Fix 150 | 20 mm rectangular | Fixed frame mount |
| ASSA Fix 160 | 20 mm rectangular | Detachable frame bracket |
| ASSA Fix 160S | 20 mm rectangular | Relaxing armrest mount and child safety bar |
This product is a common one ASSA Fix 160 without child safety locking function.
The lower beam is cut by the customer during assembly
The long connecting rod, also called the transfer bar or pin, is supplied to be able to be adjusted to the dimensions of the door or window.
When replacing the brake, use the old brake caliper as a reference and cut the new one to the same length.
First check that the following is true:
- ASSA Fix 160/2
- 252 mm brake caliper
- 20 mm rectangular profile
- Detachable frame bracket
- Left-handed design
Double-check before cutting
Only cut the long lower part of the brake cable. Do not cut the brake cable itself. Make sure the correct product has been ordered before cutting the lower part of the cable.
Does the ASSA Fix 160/2 fit my window or my patio door?
ASSA Fix 160/2 is normally used for beam widths from 401 to 550 mm. The model can be used in windows, smaller window doors and other constructions with a compatible ASSA bracket.
The manufacturer of the door or window is not sufficient to guarantee compatibility. Check the existing brake's design, dimensions, and performance first.
Assembly and replacement
When replacing an identical brake, the old brake is used as a reference. The brake caliper is unscrewed, the brake arm is disconnected from the frame mount and the old brake is removed.
Cut the new handle to the same length as the old one and install the new brake in the corresponding position. After installation, check that the handle activates the brake and that the door or window moves freely when the handle is in the open position.
Always follow the ASSA installation instructions. If you are unsure about the installation or if the old brake is missing, the work should be carried out by a professional.
Do you need help identifying the brake?
Send clear photos of the entire brake, the short side of the profile, the frame mount, the length of the brake caliper, and the mechanism where the left or right pin is visible.
