Window brake for windows, patio door and balcony door

Here you will find window and door brakes from ASSA ABLOY, Among others, ASSA Fix 150, Fix 160, Fix 160S, ASSA 750 and ASSA 760. Always identify the existing brake before ordering – two brakes may have almost the same length but still have different profile, frame attachment, function and mounting.

Do not order solely based on the door manufacturer or the length of the brake housing.
Check the points below in the correct order.

1. Identify the model – profile, mounting bracket and function

Start with the profile of the brake housing

Measure the width over the widest part of the profile of the brake housing itself. Do not measure the brake lever, the long lower arm or the edge of the strap.

Comparison of profiles for ASSA Fix 150, 160, 160S, ASSA 750, 760 and 770

20 mm rectangular profile

Normally a model in the ASSA Fix family:

Fix 150 – fixed armature mounting
Fix 150S – fixed mounts and child seats; not sold by Secureus
Fix 160 – relaxing armrest mount
Fix 160S – comfortable attachment and child safety

16 mm T-shaped Euronot profile

The recessed part is 12 mm wide. Normal:

ASSA 750 – fixed armature mounting
ASSA 760 – relaxing armrest mount

750 and 760 have no left or right version.

22 mm profile with chamfered corners

Probably ASSA 770. The model is not sold by Secureus. Do not order the 750 or 760 as a replacement – the 760 and 770 may have the same brake housing length but different profile and attachment.

Fix 160S is not the same as a regular Fix 160.
The 160S has a special child safety locking function with key operation. Only select 160S when the old installation has the same function or when a complete new installation is properly designed.

2. Measure the brake housing and check the left or right side

Measure the entire straight brake housing

Measure from one end of the brake housing to the other. Don't count on the lower arm, the protruding brake lever, or the arm.

A difference of a few millimeters can mean a different series or special model. For example, the Fix 160 is standard on the 352 and 452 mm models and is available as a special model on the 347 and 447 mm models.

Left or right: the brake lever decides

This applies to Fix 150, Fix 160 and Fix 160S.

Keep the brake housing with the opening facing upwards so that you can see into the brake box.
Keep the brake housing against you and the locking pin away from you.
Follow the small brake cable all the way out of the brake housing.

Left: The pin goes out on the left side.
Right: The pin goes out on the right side.

Do not base your decision on the door hinge, side or brake arm position. The arm can be moved and is not fixed.

The parking brake lever indicates whether the parking brake is left or right.

Manufacturer and model year are only support

Traryd, SP Fönster, Svenska Fönster, Mockfjärds and other manufacturers may have used several brake systems. The profile of the old brake, the mounting bracket, function, exact length and design are always the primary reference.

3. Replacement, assembly and common models

What does a window brake do?

A window latch is a mechanical device that helps a window or door stay in the desired open position. It is normally connected to the hinge and is affected when the handle is operated. A functioning latch reduces the risk of the door or window being blown open or slammed shut.

When should the brakes need to be replaced?

The door or window does not stay in the desired open position.
The brake provides weak or no braking effect.
The brake housing, the rod, the frame mount or the attachment is damaged.
The brakes are shaking or making unusual noises.

Please check if the fault lies in the brake itself, the bracket, the strap or any other part of the harness before ordering.

The lower beam is often cut during assembly

When replacing a confirmed, identical brake, the old brake caliper is used as a reference and the new caliper is cut to the same length. First check the profile, the bracket mounting, the length of the brake housing, the function and the left/right position.

Double-check before cutting. Only cut the long lower part – never the brake housing. A cut product cannot normally be returned as unused.

When installing a new brake without an old identical brake, the correct measured mounting instructions must be followed. If you are unsure about the model choice, dimensions or installation, you should hire a professional.

4. Common questions and help with identification

Can I choose the brake according to the door manufacturer?

No, not just that. The same manufacturer may have used several brake systems. Start with the profile width and shape and then check the bracket mounting, function, and length.

Does the brake work if the length is the same?

Not necessarily. The ASSA 760 and ASSA 770, for example, may have the same brake housing length but completely different profiles and attachments.

What distinguishes Fix 150 from Fix 160?

Both have a 20 mm rectangular profile. Fix 150 has a fixed frame mount and Fix 160 has a reclining frame mount.

What distinguishes Fix 160 from Fix 160S?

Fix 160S has a special child safety locking function with key control. It is not a regular Fix 160 and should not be chosen solely based on the profile and length.

What distinguishes the ASSA 750 from the 760?

Both have a 16 mm T-shaped Euronot profile. The ASSA 750 has a fixed frame mount and the ASSA 760 has a reclining frame mount.

What do I do if the profile is 22 mm?

If the profile has rounded corners as shown in the comparison image, it is most likely an ASSA 770. It is not sold by Secureus. Do not order ASSA 750 or 760 as a replacement.

Can you replace the window brake yourself?

A direct replacement of a properly identified, identical brake can often be done with common hand tools. Follow the mounting instructions and check the functionality afterwards. Consult a professional if the model, gauge, or installation is uncertain.
